Stopping the Stink of Foot Odor

Comments (0)

Stop foot and shoe odor before it becomes a tough problem to handleThere’s nothing like kicking your shoes off at the end of a long day, but if plants wilt, your eyes water, and friends clear the room every time you shed your shoes, you might feel like you can never get comfortable without being embarrassed by foot odor. Well, don’t sweat it! Your smelly feet will be a thing of the past if you follow these helpful hints:

The interaction of your sweat with the bacteria hiding in your shoes is what causes the stink. Therefore, you’ve got two problems to address: your feet and your footwear.

First off, practice good hygiene. Wash your feet daily with warm water and mild soap, then dry them thoroughly. It’s a good idea to dust them with foot powder, or even spray them with antiperspirant. Soaking feet in black tea helps as well. Believe it or not, the acid in the tea kills the odor-causing bacteria on your skin.

Next, opt for socks that wick away moisture, and shoes made of breathable materials, like leather or canvas. Make sure that you always wear socks, and that they are clean and dry, too—change them more than once if you must!  Also, rotate your shoes so that each pair has a chance to air out between the times that you wear them.

Follow these guidelines and you’ll be kicking off your shoes with confidence in no time! For more information, contact the foot specialists at Palm Beach Podiatry.
